Holiday Schedule
The District government observes 10 legal holidays. On these holidays, District government offices are closed and services are usually suspended for the day. Unless informed of a schedule change, residents can expect that there is no city trash and recycling collection; no street and alley cleaning; no sanitation enforcement; no nuisance abatement, towing, or abandoned vehicle removal; no parking enforcement, including meters, residential, and rush hour lane restrictions on these days. Typically, all services, parking rules, and enforcement resume the following business day.
Holiday Trash Collection Schedule
If you have DPW collection service, setting out trash and recyclables after a public holiday is easy. Just remember to “slide.” All city trash and recyclables collection slides one day following the holiday. Let’s say your normal collection day is Monday. If the holiday falls on a Monday, then your trash will be collected on Tuesday; Tuesday’s trash day will then slide to Wednesday; Wednesday’s trash will be picked up on Thursday, and so on. Please download the slide guide, for more information.
Below is a list of observed legal holidays and the post-holiday recycling and trash collection schedule for 2008.
